Prepare Your Author Website for the New Year: Day 7
It’s time to create a landing page for your reader magnet.
Don’t have a reader magnet? Check out this great post.
A lead magnet is something you give away to get people to sign-up for your email list. As Sue Campbell teaches us, lead magnets are one of the best ways to build an email list. However, even with a great give-away, there is a big fat chance you are missing out on gaining some subscribers.
What the heck am I talking about?
If you are like most of my editing clients and me, you probably created a lead magnet, added an opt-in form (more on those later) and called it good.
Hey, I’m with you on that. It works, right? But, now that I’ve moved past the basics, Sue tells me this isn’t the absolute best way for me to build an email list.
What did I miss the first time around, when I was getting my website up and running? I didn’t add a landing page for my lead magnet. A landing page is even more critical if you have multiple lead magnets, which I don’t. But maybe you do.
To move my website to the next level, the first thing I had to figure out was what Sue meant by a “landing page?” Are you as lost as I was?
A landing page isn’t just a regular old blog page. It’s a distraction-free conversion-focused web page without a sidebar.
Why so special? My techie husband tells me that regular pages are shitty for conversions
The good news? The landing page turns out to be a breeze to create, even if you have beginner-level tech skills as I do.
So, how do you create a landing page?
Some email platforms like ConvertKit offer landing page creation tools, but they aren’t so easy to work with.
However, there are templates available in Leadpages with a free trial and a free demo on how to use it. It’s super easy and it allows you to create alert bars, pop-ups, opt-in texts, and easy-to-read analytics.
THAT’S IT FOR DAY 7!
